.Learn how to expand the canvas of an image using Adobe Firefly-powered Generative Expand.
Generative Expand lets you expand your canvas beyond its original dimension. Apply Generative Expand to create an aspect ratio that fits your final format while retaining the original subject.
Generative Expand is currently available as Technology Preview. Select > Technology Previews and allow New AI Features and Settings Panel to see Generative Expand in the Crop, Rotate, & Geometry panel. Once you have enabled the settings, restart the host application (e.g., Photoshop).
You can also use Generative Expand after correcting an image's perspective with Upright in Geometry. Perspective correction often leaves "empty" or "transparent" areas along one or more edges of the photo. Use Generate to fill these transparent areas with Adobe Firefly.

Generative Expand Tips and Best Practices
- For best results, apply Generative Expand before other edits such as Generative Remove, Lens Blur, or Masking.
- For best results, apply Generative Expand incrementally (e.g., one edge at a time) instead of expanding all four edges simultaneously.
- With Generative Expand, if the image has adjustments like Shadow, Highlights, Clarity, or Dehaze, the image appearance might change in the original image areas.
- Generative Expand will not be included in the target photo for batch workflows like Copy, Paste, or Sync.
- In the Merge workflows, it's recommended to use Generative Expand after an image is merged instead of doing it on the source images before the merge.
- To report the generated result, select .
