Student File Transfer

Adobe Student File Transfer allows you to easily copy your creative assets between your school and personal Adobe accounts.

Before you begin

School account

Student File Transfer can be used with the Adobe account provided to you by your university or school. Be sure to have your school account credentials handy to start the process.

Personal account

You can use your existing personal Adobe account when copying files. If you don’t already have a personal account, Student File Transfer will allow you to sign up for one—all you need is a valid email address.

Managing account storage

Personal Adobe accounts typically provide 5GB of file storage. If you have more than 5GB of files in your school account and are copying files to your personal account, you'll need to choose which files you want to keep. Student File Transfer allows you to select the files you want to copy and warns you if the selections exceed the space available in the destination account.

Transfer files

Student File Transfer from Adobe is an easy-to-use tool that allows you to transfer your assets in just a few short steps.

Select the accounts

  1. Go to https://filetransfer.adobe.com and choose which option you would like to do:

    • If copying from your school account to a personal account, select Transfer your school files.
    • If copying from your personal account to a school account, select Transfer personal files.

Copy files between your school and personal Adobe ID account.

  2. Review the provided information about what to expect when using Student File Transfer. When ready, select Get Started.

    Note

Adobe Student File Transfer does not currently support Behance or Portfolio assets as part of its normal file copy process. Learn more about how to use the Portfolio transfer service and move a Behance profile between accounts. These are separate, one-time file transfers, not file copy services.

  3. Sign in to your university or school account. If you are already signed in, confirm the school account details are correct, or select Sign in to another account to switch to a different school account. If you are not signed in yet, you'll be asked to do so before moving on.

  4. Sign in to your personal Adobe account. If you don’t already have a personal account, follow the instructions to create one. If you are already signed into your personal account, this step will be skipped.

  5. Confirm the details for both your school and personal accounts, or select one of the Sign in to another account links to make a change. When everything looks right, choose Select your files.

Select the files to copy

Use the file picker experience to select the files you want to copy. There are essentially two main flows.

If you’re a Higher education user or a K–12 user without Adobe Express assignments

This experience applies to:

  • Higher education users, whether copying from school to personal or personal to school
  • K-12 users copying from personal to school
  • K-12 users copying from school to personal who don't have any Express assignment files
Note

If your school account has Express assignment files, see how you can copy them to your personal account.

  1. On the file picker screen, select the files you want to copy.

    • Use the filter to view files by asset type.

    • Use the relevant icons to sort by date or name, or switch between thumbnail and list views.

    • You must choose at least one file to continue.

  2. Select Continue.

  3. Adobe checks if any of the selected files were copied before and have not been updated since:

    • If any such files are found, you’ll see a warning.

    • You can either proceed with the copy or return to the picker to deselect previously copied files.

    Note

The duplication check does not directly scan your destination account. It only warns if any of the selected files have been copied previously.

If you’re a K–12 user with Express assignments

This experience applies to K–12 users copying from a school account to a personal account who have Adobe Express assignment files in their school account.

The Select your files screen describes the two-step selection process. Choose Select your files to begin.

  1. On the file picker screen, select the files you want to copy.

    • Use the filter to view files by asset type.

    • Use the relevant icons to sort by date or name, or switch between thumbnail and list views.

  2. Select Continue.

  3. On the assignments picker screen:

    • If you didn’t select any files earlier, you must select at least one here to continue.
    • You can select files across both screens and switch back and forth—your selections stay saved.

    Then, select Continue.

  4. Adobe checks if any of the selected files were copied before and have not been updated since:

    • If duplicates are found, you’ll see a warning.

    • You can either proceed or go back to remove duplicates.

  5. The confirmation screen appears.

Review and start the transfer

If your selected files exceed the available space in the destination account, a storage limit warning will appear showing file size and available space. You must remove some files until there’s enough space for all selected files in the destination account.

The email address for your personal account will be used to send a results email when the transfer process is complete. If you prefer to receive the confirmation at a different email address, select Notify a different email.

When the information on this screen looks correct, select Start transfer. You’ll see a confirmation screen, and you can close the browser at that point.

When the transfer is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a summary of the results.
