Error occurs when opening projects in Adobe Captivate

Issue

When you open a project in Adobe Captivate, you see an error message, as shown below:

Solution 1

Project files do not open in Adobe Captivate, when there is a difference in the build version used to create and view the file.

For example, an Adobe Captivate (2019 release) user, with build version 11.0.1.266, cannot open a project created by someone using build version 11.5.5.553 of Adobe Captivate (2019 release).

It is not possible to open project files using previous versions, as Adobe Captivate is not backward compatible.

Click OK to close the error dialog box and check the build.

To display the build version, in the toolbar, click Help > About Adobe Captivate

Captivate build version check
Check the build version

Once verified, update if you are not on the latest version.

To update Adobe Captivate to the latest version, click Help Check for Updates Update Now

Reopen the project file.

Solution 2

The project file does not open and displays an error even though you are on the latest version of Adobe Captivate.

For example, an Adobe Captivate (2019 release) user, with build version 11.5.5.533, cannot open a project created with the same build version.

The issue occurs if the project file is corrupted somehow. For more information, see how to recover a corrupted Adobe Captivate project.
