Adobe Firefly is a family of creative generative AI models and is available as a standalone web application available at firefly.adobe.com as well as through features powered by Firefly in Adobe’s flagship apps. The first commercially released Firefly model was trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public domain content where copyright has expired and is designed to generate images safe for commercial use.
We have compiled some questions and answers, which we anticipate Adobe Stock Contributors have. For a more comprehensive Firefly FAQ, please click here.
Yes. While the terms we already have with Adobe Stock contributors permit Adobe to create and train Firefly models, we have created a Firefly contributor bonus for all eligible Adobe Stock contributors whose content was used in the dataset training of the commercially released Firefly model.
All Adobe Stock contributors with eligible photos, vectors, illustrations or videos in the standard collection, whose content was used to train the Firefly model received a Firefly contributor bonus on September 17, 2024. The bonus is not guaranteed, it varies for each eligible contributor and is paid at Adobe’s discretion. Further details:
The 2024 bonus is based on photos, vectors, or illustrations approved between June 3, 2023, and June 2, 2024, as well as, for the first time, the all-time number of videos approved through June 2, 2024, and the number of licenses that all those assets generated in the same 12-month period.
Anyone who received a Firefly contributor bonus payment can request a payout. The minimum $25 requirement for payouts has been lowered to $1 for 3 months, but only for contributors who received a bonus payment. Note, after requesting a payout below or above $25, subsequent payout requests will require a minimum balance of $25.
Important: Any violation of the Contributor Additional Terms of Use especially those where IP rights have been violated, or where license downloads have been inflated, may result in account closure as well as the cancellation of any potential Firefly contributor bonus.
We plan to base potential subsequent bonuses on new approved assets and licenses they generated.
The initial Firefly contributor bonus on September 13, 2023, was for all eligible online images and their downloads, which occurred between June 3, 2022, and June 2, 2023. The 2024 Firefly contributor bonus is based on photos, vectors, or illustrations approved between June 3, 2023, and June 2, 2024, as well as, for the first time, the all-time number of videos approved through June 2, 2024, and the number of licenses that all those assets generated in the same 12-month period.
Please note that each media asset is included in the bonus program one time only, and future calculations and timelines are subject to further evaluation and the model may change.
The payment is different for every Stock contributor because it is based on photos, vectors, or illustrations approved between June 3, 2023, and June 2, 2024, as well as, for the first time, the all-time number of videos approved through June 2, 2024, and the number of licenses that all of those assets generated in the same 12-month period.
The Firefly contributor bonus payment was added to your overall balance in the contributor portal on September 17, 2024. A banner on the Insights > My Statistics tab provides the specific amount that was added. You can also view the Firefly bonus payment by following these steps:
1. Click the Insights tab at the top of the contributor portal.
2. Click the My Statistics tab at the top of the page.
3. Click the dropdown menu in the upper left corner (Top Sellers is shown by default).
4. Select Other Payments from the dropdown menu.
5. Select a date range that includes the date of the payment.
6. Click "Display Statistics"
The minimum cash out level for contributors who received a Firefly bonus is lowered to $1 from September 17, 2024 to December 17, 2024. Important: Once you have requested a payment, regardless of the amount, the minimum payout level returns to $25 for subsequent payout requests. Payments are processed in the order received. Depending on the volume of requests, payments may take longer than the standard 8-10 business days.
Firefly generated assets from the commercially released version can be submitted to Adobe Stock if they meet our generative AI submission guidelines and don’t contain a watermark.
We do not have an opt-out preference for Adobe Stock content.
Some Adobe Stock generative AI content has been used for training.
Stills from video content have been used in training of commercially available Firefly models.
If a file has Content Credentials with a "generative AI training and usage preference" applied indicating the user does not want their assets used for training, it will not be eligible for submission to Adobe Stock. Adobe trains its Firefly generative AI models on Stock uploads, and this allows us to better respect creator preferences.
