Learn about new features and enhancements in the June 2025 release of Illustrator on desktop (version 29.6).
Generative Expand, powered by Adobe Firefly, lets you generate vector graphics to expand your artwork beyond its original bounds. You can expand just the artwork for ideation, or expand the artboard along with the finished artwork to create different layouts for print or social media. Once expanded, you can combine the expanded portion with the original artwork to create logically grouped objects for further editing. You can also use Generative Expand to fill the print bleed area around an artboard.
Illustrator 29.6 comes with the following performance enhancements:
- Effects: Calligraphic Brushes and Art Brushes (Window > Brushes) render effects faster.
- Editing: Operations such as move, scale, rotate, and duplication are smoother and faster.
The Live preview option in the Pencil tool renders stroke styles and effects instantly as you draw, making the process more intuitive and precise. The Live curve fitting option adjusts the path's curve in real time—no need to release the mouse or lift the stylus.

You can now instantly repeat your last artboard action — move, duplicate, or scale — using Ctrl + D or Cmd + D.
Place artwork precisely on select artboards
You can now paste objects directly onto selected artboards using Paste in Front, Paste in Back, or Paste in Place.
Rearrange your selected artboards, anywhere on the canvas
You can now easily rearrange selected artboards in your document with more precision, helping you streamline your workflow.
