Prepare Photoshop assets for Aero

Learn how to make your Adobe Photoshop assets ready for Adobe Aero.

Aero helps you to turn your 2D assets into 3D augmented reality experiences. Standard image formats and Photoshop documents can be brought into the Aero app quickly and easily using import assets.

Bringing Photoshop assets into Aero

You can prepare Photoshop documents to bring into Aero with simple steps:

  1. In Adobe Photoshop CC, go to File > Export > Export to Aero.

  2. Next, select whether you want to flatten the image or preserve the layers.

  3. Click Export and press OK.

  4. Save the file that you want to import into Aero, in a place accessible from your mobile device (Creative Cloud files).

  5. Now open Aero on your device and import the asset.

A few things to keep in mind

  • Keep the size of the document and the number of layers low, preferably fewer than 6 layers and 50 MB or less in size.
  • You may want to flatten layer groups in Photoshop from Window > Layers.
  • To use objects on different layers in Aero, separate the layers in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Aero casts light on objects primarily from the top down and uses an indoor image for lighting. This means that depending on the way you rotate your object, it may get brighter or darker given the light in the space around you. Please note that because of this, your object and/or layered PSD file may look darker in AR than it does in the thumbnail of your CC Library.

Photoshop document features supported in Aero

Layer Visibility

Layer must be visible to appear in Adobe Aero.

Layer Naming

Layers must not have duplicate names

Layer Groups

All layer groups at the top level are flattened into a single layer each.

Adjustment Layers / Blend Modes

Adjustment layers and blend modes at the top level of the document are ignored. Adjustment layers within layers groups are applied to the group when it is flattened.

Text Layers / Vector Layers / Smart Objects

Smart objects, text layers, and vector layers are rasterized.

Layer Effects

Layer effects are rasterized.

3D Layers

If a 3D layer is detected at the top level of the document, no processing is done by the script. Upon import, the 3D layer that is found is imported into Aero.

Channels

Channels applied as masks are respected as part of the layer composites. Extra channels are ignored.

What's next?

In Adobe Aero, follow the steps to import assets from Creative Cloud Files.

You can then place the asset, edit the scene, and add interactivity to your 3D content.
