Content Credentials in Adobe Firefly
Content Credentials are industry-standard, tamper-evident metadata that can help add context about how a file was created or edited and who was involved in the process. Content Credentials can be customized to include all kinds of information, but within Adobe Firefly, they are used to promote transparency with generative AI.
As part of our commitment to supporting transparency around the use of generative AI, Adobe automatically applies Content Credentials to assets where 100% of the pixels are generated with Adobe Firefly, such as Text to Image.
What information is included?
The following non-personal information is always included in Content Credentials automatically applied to assets generated with Adobe Firefly:
- Output thumbnail: A visual thumbnail of the output that displays only for assets created using the Text to image feature on the Firefly website.
- Issuer: Adobe Inc., the organization responsible for issuing the Content Credential.
- Date: Date on which the Content Credential was issued.
- App or device used: The Adobe software application or hardware device used to generate the asset.
- AI tool used: The Adobe generative AI tool used.
- Actions: The general editing and processing actions taken to produce the asset. Only Created or Other edits are listed for assets generated with Adobe Firefly features.
Unless you’ve opted to include additional information using the Content Credentials feature in Photoshop, Lightroom, or Content Authenticity, no other details will be included.
Where are Content Credentials stored?
Content Credentials for assets generated with Adobe Firefly features are attached to their respective files and may be stored in Adobe’s public Content Credentials cloud.
Storing a copy of your Content Credentials in Adobe’s Content Credentials cloud makes them durable and recoverable using the Inspect tool on Adobe Content Authenticity. This tool enables you to view Content Credentials associated with a selected asset if they exist.
Inspect offers recovery tools for Content Credentials, not galleries or search services.
