If you're using an earlier version of Lightroom for mobile (iOS), you can still contribute by using the Lightroom on the web link provided in the email invite.
You can view and contribute to shared albums even without a premium subscription. However, the album owner must have a valid trial or paid subscription for premium features to invite contributors.
