Manage contract ownership

Last updated on Aug 7, 2026

Transfer contract ownership, identify the current contract owner, revoke pending invitations, or request ownership of a Teams account.

The contract owner is responsible for payment-related account management, including billing, payment methods, and renewals. By default, the contract owner is the administrator who purchased the subscription and set up the account. Only one contract owner can be assigned to a contract at a time.

Identify the contract owner

System admins can easily find the organization's contract owner and contact them to help complete an account management task.

Sign in to the Admin Console.

Select the Account tab.

Review the Contract owner field in the account details section.

Account page in Admin Console with the contract owner name highlighted.
The Account details section provides information about the Contract owner, Subscription, Renewal date, and more.

Request contract ownership

As an admin, you can take ownership of an account if the contract owner has left the organization. Sign in to the Admin Console, navigate to Support, and contact Adobe Customer Care. The customer care team requires an email from you, requesting the change in ownership of the account.

To confirm the change, the customer care team sends an email to the current contract owner. You are designated as the contract owner in the following scenarios:

  • The current contract owner's email no longer exists.
  • The current contract owner doesn't respond within two days.
  • The account is unpaid due to a payment issue.

After you are designated as the contract owner, you are prompted to update payment details on the account.

Note

If the contract owner isn't available, and the account doesn't have any other admin, Adobe Customer Care can't promote non-admins to the admin role. In this case, you can purchase a new Creative Cloud for teams subscription.

Transfer contract ownership

A contract owner can transfer ownership to another administrator.

Before you begin:

  • The new contract owner must already be an administrator.
  • The new contract owner must have the same country settings as the current contract owner.

Sign in to the Admin Console.

Select Account.

If you manage multiple contracts, select the appropriate contract.

Select the Edit icon next to Contract owner

Select the administrator you want to designate as the new contract owner.

Select Save.

An invitation email is sent to the nominated administrator. Ownership transfers after the invitation is accepted and the nominee completes the required setup steps.

When the nominee accepts the invitation, you're removed from the contract owner role and can no longer access the billing or payment details.

Revoke a pending invitation

You can revoke a contract owner invitation until the nominee accepts it.

Sign in to the Admin Console.

On the Account tab, select the Revoke icon.

Select Revoke Invitation.

Accept a contract owner invitation

If the existing contract owner nominates you as the contract owner, you will receive an email invitation.

Open the email invitation and accept it to become the contract owner.

Sign in to review and accept the terms and conditions.

Add your payment information.

If payment details aren't available, you can later navigate to the Account tab on the Admin Console and edit the Payment methodLearn more.

If you missed a payment or your payment failed, see how to fix payment issues.

Select Save.
