Issue

AI edits storage fails to read, write, or update.

The following dialog box appears in version 15.1 (December 2025) and later versions.

Solution

  • Ensure that you have admin privileges on the machine.
  • Make sure only a single instance of Lightroom Classic is accessing the current catalog in use.
  • Ensure the disk has sufficient space.
  • Restart the system and then open Lightroom Classic.
Tip

You can find the path to your catalog and AI edits storage files under Help > System Info > Library Path.

Best Practices

  • Don't add, remove, or modify files or their contents in AI edits storage.
  • If you are using a disk cleanup manager to perform disk cleanup, exclude Lightroom folders from the process.
  • When taking a backup, ensure that both the catalog and AI edits storage files are included. Use Lightroom Classic backup functionality for this purpose. However, if you are using a third-party application, please ensure that the backup completes without any errors.
  • Don't give third-party plugins direct access to either the catalog or the AI edits storage. Access should always be granted via Lightroom.
  • (Recommended) When using any cloud storage for syncing local folders, ensure that the catalog and AI edits storage folders are synced completely. Missing files during sync can cause issues while opening the catalog in Lightroom. Please avoid activating your cloud storage's sync functionality while the catalog is in use.
Note

.lrcat is the catalog file, and .lrcat-data is where AI edits are being stored.
