Error 14 causes installation failure

Last updated on Dec 22, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 14 "Failed to start Adobe Genuine Service" during app installation.

Error code 14 occurs when the gccustomhook.exe is unable to start the Adobe Genuine Service (AGS) after it has been successfully installed. This can happen if the Adobe Genuine Service is blocked, files are corrupted, or are in conflict with an older version running on your system.

Adobe Genuine Service failed to start during installation

To resolve this issue, restart your machine. The restart will automatically start the installed Adobe Genuine Service, allowing the installation to continue.

Note

Ensure you’ve closed all Adobe apps and no background processes are running before deleting the folder.

When prompted, select Accept or Deny on the Adobe Genuine Service consent dialog box based on your preference.

  • Accept allows Adobe Genuine Service to run in the background and verify the authenticity of your Adobe apps.
  • Deny prevents the service from running. You can still install and use your apps, but you may see reminders asking you to allow the service again.
