Substance 3D Viewer is great for viewing and rendering images of your 3D models, but often you'll want to use those images in other applications. There are three ways to move images from Viewer to other applications:
- Open the Export workspace to save a high-quality render of your scene.
- Snapshot takes a quick screenshot of the current viewport without re-rendering the content.
- Send to... allows you to customize the size and quality of the screenshot and starts a render in the background before sending the high-quality rendered image to another application.
Snapshot
The Snapshot button is a quick way to either copy the current view to your clipboard or save it as a file.
When you click Snapshot, an outline appears around the Viewport to show the resolution of the Snapshot. Resizing the window will change the size of the snapshot. Snapshot doesn't re-render the view; it copies the Viewport as it appears in Viewer.
While in Canvas view, Snapshot will export the canvas at the current resolution, rather than the whole viewport. Resizing the Viewer window will change the size of the Snapshot, but will maintain the aspect ratio of the Canvas.
For higher quality exports, use Send to...
Send To...
The Send To... button is only available while in Canvas view. It is greyed out while in 3D view.
The Send to... button allows you to send a high quality render of your scene to the Photoshop (beta) app. The image is rendered in the background, allowing you to keep interacting with Viewer. These renders can take up to several minutes depending on the complexity of the 3D scene and the desired resolution and quality.
To use the Send to... feature, you need to install both the Photoshop (beta) app, and the Substance Viewer to Photoshop plugin.
