Standard models

Standard models are any model made out of geometry. Models are created in external modeling applications like Adobe Substance 3D Modeler or Blender, and imported to Dimension. Standard models have predefined appearances and limited customization in Dimension.

To import a model:

  • Use file > import > 3D model
  • Drag and drop a file into the viewport

Once a model is imported you can use the transform tools to arrange it, apply materials, or otherwise manipulate it to create your final scene in Dimension.

Convert objects to a Standard model

Objects like Shapes and 3D Text are dynamic objects that you can create in Dimension with parameters to change their appearance. Some features like Decals will not work on these objects, however it's possible to change these objects into Standard models where these features will work. Converting an object into a Standard model will lock in the shape or text with the current settings, and it will no longer be possible to use the parameters to modify the object.

To convert an object into a Standard model:

  1. Select the object.
  2. In the Actions panel, use the "Convert to standard model" action.
