Extract audio

Last updated on Oct 10, 2025

Learn how to extract audio from video clips and use it in your project in Premiere on iPhone.

Extracting audio lets you separate the sound from a video so you can edit it independently. You can either pull audio from clips already in your timeline or from other videos saved on your phone. This makes it easy to add effects, clean up sound, or reuse audio in new ways.

Extract audio from a timeline clip

Tap the video clip in your timeline.

From the options that appear, tap Extract audio.

Extract Audio is highlighted. The timeline shows a video clip with the extracted audio track placed directly below as a separate layer.
Extract audio from a video clip to edit its sound separately in the timeline for greater precision.

The audio from the clip is separated and placed below the video in the timeline as an independent audio track. You can now edit or enhance it separately. For example, use it to create L-cuts by extending the audio before or after the video cuts to make transitions smoother and more natural.

Extract audio from your phone’s videos

Go to Add mode and select Music and audio.

From the options that appear, tap Extract audio.

Add mode panel with the Extract audio option highlighted under Music and audio.
Select Extract audio in Add mode to pull audio from any video stored on your iPhone.

Your phone’s video library opens. Select the video whose audio you want to use and tap Next.

The audio is extracted and added to your timeline, ready for editing.
