Use AI Assistant to ask questions and explore your PDF
AI Assistant quickly provides comprehensive and informative answers to questions based on the PDF content. It links sources within the document and suggests follow-up questions based on the primary question.

Interact with the document using one of the following options:
- Enter your question in the message box.
- Select
to enter voice prompts. Ask your questions, and wait until the response is generated.
- Choose from suggested questions based on your PDF content.

View the answer with numbered source links.
Select a number to jump to that section in the document.
To hide sources, choose Hide sources from the Options menu.
Select Stop to pause response generation.
Drag the handle to resize the AI Assistant pane.
Review related questions suggested by the Assistant.
Use hands-free voice commands to interact with PDFs in Acrobat iOS
You can now use AI Assistant voice commands to interact with your documents. It allows you to talk and interact with the AI Assistant in real time, even while it’s speaking, just like talking to a person. You can say your question out loud to clarify the response or to guide the conversation in a new direction. The generated audio response is high quality and sounds more natural.
You can interact with the AI Assistant using any of these supported languages: English, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, French, and Portuguese. It automatically detects and responds in the language you use.

Open your document and select the AI Assistant icon.

Once the response is generated, you hear a clear, smooth response read aloud.
Tap the voice icon and ask your question aloud for a hands-free experience. You'll hear a clear, smooth spoken response. To pause the audio playback, select the Pause icon.
Press the Play icon to resume it. -

Turn off AI Assistant

Select the profile icon on your device.

Select Preferences.

Select the toggle next to Enable generative AI features in Acrobat.
NoteThe option Enable generative AI features in Acrobat is displayed only if you previously opted in for the generative AI features.
Access chat history
You can access your conversation threads with Acrobat's AI Assistant across sessions. You can access the chat history whether your files are stored locally or in the cloud. The chat history includes a timeline to trace how your questions and answers evolved. You can also copy and save the entire chat history at a desired location. The copied chat history does not show the timeline of questions and generated answers.
Access a document where you previously used the AI Assistant to generate responses to your queries. The document opens as before, with the full chat history and any associated follow-up questions.
Clear chat history
You can clear the chat history and ensure that the AI Assistant treats the document as new so you can ask fresh questions.

Open the document and select Clear chat history in the upper-right corner.

In the confirmation dialog box that opens, select Clear history.
Clear chat history from the AI assistant Clear chat history from the AI assistant NoteWhen your chat history is cleared, you’ll see a message saying Your chat history was cleared. To continue, select Start new chat in the lower-right corner. The message stays visible as long as the document remains open without reprocessing. To reset the Assistant, close and reopen the document.
If clearing fails, you'll see Unable to clear chat history. Please try again later. This may be due to a temporary server issue—try again after some time.
Copy chat history
You can copy all chat history and save it to your desired location. The copied chat history will not include the date separator.

Open the document and select Copy full chat in the upper-right corner.

Paste the copied chat at your desired location.
The words spoken get highlighted simultaneously to ensure you always have the context and no confusion.
You can also select any sentence, and the read-aloud feature will play from the selected sentence.
Multiple document support in AI Assistant
Al Assistant can process up to 10 documents simultaneously, including non-PDF formats (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .ppt, .pptx), each up to 600 pages and 100MB. You can switch between documents, with responses consolidated from various sources and proper attributions. Persistent history support is also included to provide continuous access to previous interactions.

Open your document and select the AI Assistant icon.

Select Add from the bottom-left corner.
Alternatively, you can also use AI Assistant for multiple docs in the following ways:
- Open Acrobat, and then select multiple files from the home view. Select the ellipsis from the top right and then select Ask AI Assistant.
- Select multiple files from third-party applications, and select Share > Adobe Acrobat > Ask AI Assistant.
- Open Acrobat, then select Try it now from the Try AI Assistant onboarding card in the home view. Then select the files you want to add and select Next from the upper right.

In the dialog that opens, select the files you want to add and then select Next from the upper-right corner.
When the file is added, chat displays the number of files added.

Say or enter your question, or choose from suggested questions.

View the generated responses. To view the references of the generated responses, select the reference numbers next to the responses.
AI Assistant opens the source file first and then shows you the references.
NoteWhen you use AI Assistant with multiple files, they're grouped into a collection shown in the Recents tab. You can resume the chat or rename the collection from the context menu (ellipsis next to the file name) in the home view.
- When you open the collection from the Recents tab, the chat resumes from where you left off.
- When you open any file that was part of any collection and launch AI Assistant, the AI Assistant allows you to resume the previous chat that involved the document.
Remove files from a collection

Select Files
in the collection icon in the upper right.

Select the remove icon
next to the file name. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the removal of the selected file. The file is removed from the collection.
Provide feedback on AI Assistant responses
Your feedback makes the AI Assistant smarter and more helpful for you. Tap the or long-press within the response panel and choose to like, dislike, or report the response. Follow the onscreen instructions to submit your feedback.
You can view content sources by selecting the numbered references in the answer.
