Expand images

Learn how to use Firefly on mobile to expand the image canvas, add missing details, or insert new elements in the extended area.

  1. Open Firefly on mobile. 

  2. Tap Generative expand.

  3. Upload an image or select an image from the gallery.

  4. Tap the Expand icon.

  5. Use the crop handles to enlarge the image canvas. You can select and drag the image within the expanded canvas to position it as you like.

    Alternatively, you can use the Width and Height options in the bottom panel to set the dimensions.

    Choose the Freeform option to customize the aspect ratio when expanding the image.

  6. Enter a description in the Prompt field, or leave it blank to have one automatically generated based on the uploaded image.

  7. Tap the Generate  icon.

  8. Choose an image from the generated results or tap More to create new variations.

    The image has been expanded, and you can either browse through the generated options or generate more.
    Explore the generated options and choose the one that best aligns with your vision.

  9. Tap Keep to continue with the selected image or tap Cancel to discard the variations.

  10. Tap Export icon to download the image or open it in Adobe Express for further editing.
