Last updated on Sep 24, 2025

Learn how to generate videos with transparent backgrounds using Text to video or Image to video features.

Firefly makes it easy to control transparency while generating videos when you are using the Text to video and Image to video features. You can also combine a starting keyframe image, an ending keyframe image, and a text prompt to generate videos with transparent backgrounds and solid foreground elements.

Launch the Firefly app and tap Generate with transparent background.

Under General, the Firefly Video model will be selected by default.

The General section is open and Adobe models is selected. From the list of models, Firefly Video is selected.
Select Firefly Video as the model to generate video with transparent background.

If you selected Text to video or Image to video on the Firefly home screen to access the Generate video screen, you must choose the Firefly Video model for video generation.

Add a text description for the video you want to generate.

The text prompt is open, and a description has been added for video generation.

To add images as the first and last frames of your video, tap Keyframes and use the First frame and Last frame options.

An image for First frame is added and it is a picture of a flower with transparent background.

Note

Only images in PNG format with transparent backgrounds are supported for the first and last frames.

Use the General tab to set the resolution and aspect ratio for the video generation.

Go to the Advanced tab, and enable the Transparent background feature.

The Advanced section is open and the Transparent background option is turned on to generate a video without any background.
Enable the Transparent background option to generate a video without any background.

This is enabled by default if you accessed the Generate video screen using the Generate with transparent background option on the Firefly home.

Select Generate.

Once your video is generated, select the Background icon to explore the preset color backgrounds and preview how they look behind your video.

If you're happy with the generated video, select the Download option to save it.

The video will be downloaded as a zipped file, which will contain two video assets:

  • Foreground video: This is the primary visual content featuring the subject with the background removed.
  • Alpha video: This video includes transparency data, also known as an alpha channel, which defines which parts of the foreground should be visible and which should be transparent.

Take these two files into your favorite video editing program to create the transparency you need for your project.
