Topics in this page:

Simulation workflow enhancements

Common components across all simulation types

Add more interactivity and engagement in your simulation projects by adding Click Boxes, Mouse Pointer, Instructions, Highlight Boxes, and Input Fields on a simulation slide.

For all simulation project types, Demo, Training, or Assessment, Captivate lets you add the following components:

  • Click Box
  • Mouse Pointer
  • Instructions
  • Highlight Box
  • Input Field

Download background images

As an author, when you create Demo, Training, or Assessment projects, you can download a background image, edit the image to mask or remove sensitive information, and replace the original image on the slide.

You can also download all the background images to any location on your computer.

Note:

The option to download all images is ONLY available for simulation projects.

Image workflow enhancements

Edit the background image on a slide

We’ve enabled you to add an image as a background, apply filters, and change the focal point of the images so the images appear on devices the way you want.

For more information, view Edit the background image on a slide.

Responsive behavior in images

As an author, you can set the focal point of background images on devices to display the essential part of the image across devices.

An image's focal point is the specific area or element within the image that is intended to be the primary point of visual interest or focus. It's the part of the image that draws the viewer's attention and is typically the image's most important or visually compelling aspect

For more information, view Add an image to your Captivate project.

Add responsive behavior to a background image in a widget or User Interface Component

You can extend the responsive behavior of a background image in a widget or an Interactive component. For example, in a Card widget, you can add a background image, and in the Appearance section of the Visual Properties panel, you can select the image’s responsive behavior in the Image focus dropdown.

Theme enhancements

Adobe Captivate (12.2 release) lets you:

  • Set any theme to default
  • Delete a theme

View Themes in Adobe Captivate for more information.

Widget enhancements

Empower your learners to grasp content more effectively via two new components, Body, and Instructions, for all widgets.

For example, in the Timeline widget, in the Components section of the Visual Properties panel, there’s a Body and an Instruction component that you can display on the widget.

By default, both these components are selected. If you remove any component, Captivate adjusts the padding inside the content block to ensure that the layout fits in the slide. The height of the content block also remains the same.

Remove unused resources

In this release, Captivate has added an option to clean the unused assets from a project.

Select FileRemove Unused Items to delete the unused assets in the project.

Overlay color in the Card widget

In the Card widget in this update, you can now change the overlay color inside a card on the front panel of the widget.

Support for Universal macOS build

Captivate now runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 or M2-based) Mac computers.

Bug fixes in this update

Adobe Captivate (12.2 update) fixes the following bugs:

  • Add text and numbering in MS Word and copy and paste the text into a Radio Group, Checkbox, or a Multiple-Choice question slide. When you preview the project, Captivate behaves unexpectedly.
  • Add a Match the Column slide and add four answer options. Now, enable LMS reporting using the SCORM 1.2 standard.  If a learner takes the course on SCORM Cloud, they are marked as failed on the Result slide, even after answering the question correctly.
  • Sometimes, you may not view Adobe Captivate entirely on machines with 2K or 4K resolution. As a workaround, minimize and maximize Captivate.
  • After adding a background image on a slide, a carousel widget, and disabling the Solid Fill checkbox in the widget's Appearance section, the background image does not display if you preview the project.
  • On Windows 11, you cannot change the font size in a text block in Tablet or Mobile mode. However, you can change the font size in the Desktop mode.
  • On macOS, in a Video content block, clicking the Next button with the action Go to next slide after playing the video does not take you to the next slide. The Next button, however, behaves as expected, if you don't play the video.
  • After taking a quiz, when you click Review quiz, you arrive on the Quiz Result slide, as expected. But, if you click Continue, Captivate does not navigate to the last slide.
  • When you're recording a simulation on an external monitor, sometimes, the mouse clicks don't get recorded as expected.
  • Add a Timeline widget and select a vertical Design Option. Hover on any event node and you’ll see a bounding box at an unexpected place.
  • Add a Timeline widget and select a Design Option. If you remove the Caption in the Visual Properties panel, the objects on the slide overlap. If you select another Design Option and remove the Image from the Visual Properties panel, a vertical line overlaps the objects on the slide.
  • After installing Adobe Captivate in German locale, add a quiz slide. On previewing the project and answering a question, a caption appears, “Press J to continue”, in German. When you press J, nothing happens. On pressing Y, the project moves on.
  • In a simulation demo project, clicking the Apply to all slides button does not apply the changes to the slides in the project.
  • In the Theme editor, the preview pane of a theme does not update when you apply a linear or gradient fill.
  • When you export the answer options in a Radio button, dropdown, or an Input field and import them into the project, the answers are not localized. They appear in English.
  • If the simulation project contains a video on a slide and you replace the video with a video from the Web, the slide navigator shows the slide as blank, when you switch between slides on the navigator.

Limitations

  • On machines with M1 or M2 chipsets, we've removed the options to Import and Export captions.
