Learn how to make a slide accessible and set speech agent language at a project level.

Slide accessibility

When creating accessible eLearning content, providing descriptive and informative text for each slide is important. Adobe Captivate allows you to specify accessibility text for the key information presented on the slide. Then, a screen reader reads out the text to the learner.

  1. Select Accessibility in the right toolbar.

Select accessibility on the right panel
Select accessibility in the right toolbar

  2. Enter the accessibility text in the Accessibility Text field.

Enter accessibility text inside the Accessibility text field.
    Enter accessibility text

  3. Select the speech agent based on the language used for the accessibility text. For example, if you enter text in German, select German in the Speech Agent dropdown so a screen reader uses the locale-specific agent to read the text.

Select the speech agent from the drop-down
    Select the speech agent

Set speech agent at a project level

Authors can set the language for a speech agent at a project level. This helps authors set the language once and not set the language for each slide/ component separately.

  • After setting the speech agent language at the project level, you can still change the speech agent for individual components. This will not affect the project-level setting.

  • If you have already changed an object’s language and later updated the global setting, the object will keep its assigned language and will not adopt the new global setting.

  1. Launch Preferences

    • For Windows: Open the Edit menu > select Preferences. Or use Ctrl +, shortcut from the keyboard.
    • For macOS: Open the Adobe Captivate drop-down menu > select Preferences. Or use the ⌘, shortcut on the keyboard.
  2. Select Project and then select Publish to Computer.

  3. Select the speech agent language from the Language dropdown.

  4. Select OK to apply the speech agent at a project level.
