Edit an individual color in color groups

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to edit an individual color in color groups to customize your color palette for a smooth workflow.

When you create a color group using the harmony rule, the colors are linked by default. When a color group is linked, editing one color changes the other colors according to the harmony rule. To modify one color without changing the rest, unlink the color markers from the harmony rule.

Select Window > Color Guide.

Select Edit Colors or Edit or Apply Colors in the Color Guide panel depending on whether the artwork is selected or not.

Select the color group you want to edit and then select Edit in the Recolor Artwork dialog box.
The Recolor Artwork dialog box displays Edit tab highlighted along with color wheel and sliders to adjust hue, saturation and brightness.
To edit your color groups, select the Edit tab in the Recolor Artwork dialog box.

Select the Link Unlink harmony colors .

Select either of the following in the color wheel or color bar view:

  • Drag the color handle you want to edit to set a new color while using the color wheel.
  • Select the color bar or color handle you want to change and manually edit the color values.
  • Double-click the color wheel to open the Color Picker dialog box. Right-click the color bar or handle and select the Color Picker option to open the dialog box. You can now select a new color in the Color Picker.
  • Right-click a color handle or color bar and select Select Shade to pick a new shade.

Select the Link Harmony colors icon to relink the colors so that the markers move again according to the newly defined harmony rule.
