Paintbrush tool options

Learn how to customize the Paintbrush tool options to adjust the stroke settings and appearance.

Double-click the Paintbrush tool to open the Paintbrush Tool Options dialog box.

In the Paintbrush Tool Options dialog box, you can use the following options:

Functions

Fidelity

Controls how far you move your cursor or stylus before Illustrator adds a new anchor point. The Fidelity slider ranges from Accurate (for detailed paths) to Smooth (for cleaner curves).

Fill new brush strokes

Applies a fill to brush strokes. Use the option when drawing closed paths to automatically fill the enclosed area.

Keep Selected

Ensures that the path remains selected after you draw it.

Edit Selected Paths

Allows you to modify the selected paths using the Paintbrush tool.

Within

Sets how close your cursor or stylus must be to the selected path to edit it with the Paintbrush tool. To use the slider select Edit Selected Paths.
