Plugin installation errors using ExManCmd or UPIA

Find the plugin installation errors and their solutions when using the ExManCmd or UPIA tool.

Error messages and codes during installation via ExManCmd or the UPIA tool indicate that the plugin installation has failed. Find plugin installation error codes, messages, and their solutions in this table.

Couldn't install plugin

This error occurs only on macOS Catalina and later versions.


To resolve this issue, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. Select the (+) icon and then add the following apps, if not already present:

  • Creative Cloud desktop app: /Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Adobe Desktop Service: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Desktop Common/ADS

Use the toggle next to these apps to allow Full Disk Access for them.

Close the Creative Cloud desktop app and other open Creative Cloud apps. Then, reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.

Installation failed due to a lack of administrator access

This error occurs if you don’t have administrator access to install apps on your computer, or if you select No or Cancel when prompted to enter an administrator password.
To resolve this issue, enter your admin password if prompted during installation.

  • Install the extension or plugin again.
  • Go to Stock & Marketplace using the Creative Cloud desktop app.
  • Find the extension, and if it’s installed, select Uninstall.
  • Wait for two minutes for the removal to complete, then select Install. 
  • Select the notification message when it appears. 
  • If prompted, enter your administrator password and select Yes in the notification dialog.

Windows: If the issue persists, open Task Manager and select the Details tab. Locate and select the process AdobeExtensionsService.exe, then select End task. Once the background process closes, install the plugin again.

-192

Extension Manager init failed, status = -192!

The Creative Cloud desktop app version is outdated.

Update to the latest version of the Creative Cloud desktop app, and then install your extension or plugin again.

-201, 204

Couldn't install plugin

This error only occurs on macOS Catalina and later versions.

  • To fix this error:
    Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
  • Select the (+) icon and then add the Creative Cloud desktop app, if it’s not already present.
  • Turn on the toggle next to the Creative Cloud desktop app to allow Full Disk Access.
  • Then, reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.

-402

Failed signature verification

This error occurs when the plugin isn't signed or has no digital signature.

Request the developer to sign the plugin and verify its authenticity.

-403, -411

Compatible Creative Cloud app not found

The Creative Cloud app version isn't compatible.

Ensure you have installed a compatible version of the Creative Cloud app, and then install the plugin again.

-407, -408

Another Add-on required 

Read the descriptions of the plugins or extensions you need to install to determine the correct order. Then, install the plugins and extensions in the correct order to resolve this issue.

-412

An add-on with the same name has already been installed.

Check if the extension or plugin you have installed is the one you need. If you have a different product with the same name and want the version available through Creative Cloud Marketplace, uninstall the current one. Then, install the extension or plugin from Creative Cloud Marketplace.

-418

Newer version of this add-on has already been installed

Remove any newer versions you've previously installed to install the specific version offered through Creative Cloud Marketplace. Then, reinstall the older version through the Creative Cloud Marketplace.

  • Go to the Stock & Marketplace tab and select Plugins.
  • Locate the extension or plugin; if it's already installed, select Uninstall.
  • Wait a couple of minutes for the removal to complete, then select Install.

-433

Plugin not supported

The installed Creative Cloud app does not support the UXP Hybrid plugin you are trying to install.

Install the compatible version, then close the Creative Cloud desktop app and any installed apps. Next, reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.

-456

Case 1: The Add-on requires the relevant Creative Cloud apps to be closed to complete the installation/update.

Case 2: The Add-on must close its compatible Adobe application to complete the installation/update.

Close the compatible Creative Cloud apps that are open. Then, install or update the extension or plugin again.

-458

Required Adobe apps have not been installed

An extension or plugin installed on Adobe Exchange is not added to your Creative Cloud app if the app version is incompatible with it. Similarly, if you update your app and it's no longer compatible with the extension or plugin, it won't appear in the app.

Install at least one compatible Creative Cloud app that supports this extension (plugin or add-on), and then install the extension or plugin again.

Installation is incompatible with the installed Adobe app

An extension or plugin installed on Adobe Exchange isn't added to your Creative Cloud app if the app version is incompatible with it. Similarly, if you update your app and it's no longer compatible with the extension or plugin, it won't appear in the app.

Install at least one compatible Creative Cloud app that supports this extension (plugin or add-on), and then install the extension or plugin again.

-1xx (-151 to -191)

File operation error

The extension or plugin is corrupted. Install the plugin or extension again. 

-2xx (-251 to -278)

File operation error

The extension or plugin is corrupted. Install the plugin or extension again. 

-5xx (-500 to -513)

Failed to update the database

The extension or plugin is corrupted. Install the plugin or extension again.

-506

The plugin is already installed through the Creative Cloud desktop app.

You're trying to install a plugin with the UPIA tool when it was already installed using the Creative Cloud desktop app. To resolve this issue, uninstall your plugin or extension from the Creative Cloud desktop app and install it using the UPIA tool.

-602

License check failed
You're using an encrypted plugin without signing into the Creative Cloud desktop app.

This error may occur when the plugin installation is tied to administrator privileges or when you are signed out of the Creative Cloud desktop app.

To resolve this error:

  • Sign in to the Creative Cloud desktop app.
  • Install the extension or plugin again without admin privileges.

-6xx (-601, -602, -603, -604, -651, -652, -653)

Your license failed to validate, or you use an encrypted plugin when the Creative Cloud desktop app isn't installed.

This error may occur when the plugin is corrupted or you don't have the Creative Cloud desktop app installed on your device.

To resolve this issue:

  • Install the Creative Cloud desktop app and sign in to your account.
  • Install the extension or plugin again without admin privileges.

-629

Admin privileges not provided

This error occurs when you don't provide admin credentials at the prompt.

To resolve the issue, try the operation again and enter your admin credentials when prompted.

-630

Timeout Error

This error occurs when you don't enter your account credentials when prompted, resulting in a timeout.

To resolve this issue, start the operation again and enter your credentials when asked.

-631

Request failed

This issue occurs when you attempt to install plugins or extensions using the Universal Plugin Installer Agent (UPIA) while signed out of the Creative Cloud desktop app.

To resolve this issue, sign in to the Creative Cloud desktop app. Then, install your extension or plugin again.

-641, -642

Couldn't install plugins

This error occurs when you try to install plugins or extensions using sudo commands on the Universal Plugin Installer Agent (UPIA) command-line tool.

To fix this issue, open the Creative Cloud desktop app. Then install your extension or plugin again.

-643, -644

Internal communication failure

Close the Creative Cloud desktop app and other open Creative Cloud apps. Then, reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.

-645

Failed to launch CCD

Close the Creative Cloud desktop app and other open Creative Cloud apps. Then, reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.

-646

Plugin Installer unit failed.

Reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the extension or plugin again.
