Older versions of Creative Cloud apps fail to uninstall on Windows

Learn what to do when you try to uninstall the previous version of a Creative Cloud app on Windows, and the app fails to uninstall.

When trying to uninstall the previous version of a Creative Cloud app from Control Panel > Programs and Features, you get the following error message: "An error occurred while trying to uninstall [App name]. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove [App name] from the Programs and Features list?"

If you don’t have the Creative Cloud desktop app, download the app and double-click the downloaded file. Then, sign in to your account when the installer window opens and finish the installation.

In Apps > All Apps, select the More actions icon   for the app you want to uninstall.

Note

If your screen looks different, follow the instructions for the earlier version of the Creative Cloud desktop app. 

Select Uninstall in the context menu.

Select KeepRemove, or Cancel, based on your preference.

  • Keep: Retains the app notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences
  • Remove: Removes the app notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences
  • Cancel: Cancels the uninstallation

Make sure to save any running project and close the app before uninstalling.

The app begins to uninstall. You can reinstall the app later, as needed.
