Enable or disable Source clips effects in thumbnails

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to show or hide source-clip effects on thumbnails in the Project panel in Adobe Premiere.

When you apply effects to a source clip, Premiere can display those changes directly on the clip’s thumbnail in the Project panel. You can turn this thumbnail display on or off depending on your workflow or performance needs.

In the Project panel, right-click the thumbnail of the source clip you want to modify.

Select Thumbnails show effects applied to enable the display of source-level effects.

Project panel context menu with the “Thumbnails show effects applied” option highlighted for managing clip preview visibility.
Manage how your media appears in the Project panel by enabling or disabling thumbnail previews of source-clip effects.

Deselect Thumbnails show effects applied to hide source-level effects and show the original thumbnail.

Repeat the action for any other clips whose thumbnails you want to update.

Tip

Switch between List View and Icon View if you want to compare thumbnail visibility across clips.
