View clip data in the Metadata panel

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to display project-specific clip information by configuring the Project Metadata schema in Adobe Premiere.

The Metadata panel displays both file-based XMP metadata and project-specific clip information. Clip data, stored in the Premiere Project Metadata schema, includes properties like clip names, tape names, log notes, and timecode values that exist only within your Premiere project file.

Use this procedure when you need to view or work with clip-specific properties that are stored in your project rather than in source files. Clip data differs from file metadata because it applies to individual clip instances in your project, making it useful when you have multiple clips pointing to the same source file or when working with subclips. This information remains internal to Premiere unless you link clip fields to XMP metadata fields.

Configuring which clip information appears in the Metadata panel helps you focus on the properties most relevant to your workflow, whether you're logging footage, organizing sequences, or preparing assets for delivery.

Configure clip data display

Select Window > Metadata if the panel is not already visible in your workspace.

Select the panel menu   icon in the Metadata panel, then choose Metadata Display.

Select the   icon next to Premiere Project Metadata to expand the list of available clip information fields.

Check the box next to Premiere Project Metadata to display all clip information fields, or check only the specific fields you want to view.

Select OK to apply your changes.

The Metadata panel now displays your selected clip information fields whenever you select a clip in the Project or Timeline panel. You can modify these display settings at any time by returning to the Metadata Display dialog box.
