Create vignettes using Lumetri Color

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Use Vignette controls to darken or lighten edges and direct viewer focus to specific subjects in your frame in Adobe Premiere.

Vignetting creates a natural focal point by fading the edges of your footage while keeping the center bright and prominent.

The Vignette section in the Lumetri Color panel creates a frame-surrounding vignette effect that helps guide viewer attention to key subjects like people or landscapes. This is the quickest way to add a vignette in Premiere. For more control over vignette shape and position, use masks with the Brightness & Contrast effect instead.

In the Lumetri Color panel, scroll down to the Vignette section.

Adjust the Vignette controls in the Lumetri Color panel to darken or lighten the edges of the frame.

Drag the Amount slider left to a negative value to darken the edges, creating a traditional vignette.

Adjust the Midpoint slider to control how far the vignette extends into your frame.

Fine-tune the Roundness slider to change the vignette shape from circular to more rectangular.

Modify the Feather slider to soften or sharpen the vignette edge transition.

The four vignette controls work together to create your desired effect. The Amount slider sets the darkness or brightness level, with negative values creating the classic darkened-edge look and positive values lightening the edges. Lower Midpoint values affect more of the image, while higher values restrict the effect to the outer edges only.

The Roundness control adjusts the vignette's shape. Negative values create an exaggerated vignette with more pronounced corners, while positive values produce a subtler, more circular effect that blends naturally with your footage. The Feather slider defines the edge quality—smaller values create a harder, more defined border between the vignette and the center, while larger values create a softer, more gradual transition.

You can combine vignettes with other Lumetri Color adjustments in the same effect instance. The vignette applies after all other color corrections, making it ideal as a finishing touch to your color grade.

Tip

Start with subtle adjustments to maintain a natural look. Extreme vignette settings can distract viewers rather than guide their attention.
