Automatic product assignment FAQ
Get answers to common questions about setting up and managing automatic assignment rules for products.
These questions typically arise when evaluating automatic assignment rules, configuring product access automation, or troubleshooting license provisioning workflows. Questions are organized by decision-making stage: choosing between automation approaches, configuring rules, and managing active rules.
Use automatic assignment rules when your organization is willing to auto-approve and provision a specific product to a defined set of users. Product requests let you review each request before approving or denying based on individual user needs.
Yes. Automatic assignment rules for specific products can be active even when product requests are enabled for your organization. If a user qualifies for an automatic assignment rule, that rule takes precedence over the manual request process.
Users can request access from the Creative Cloud desktop app, Creative Cloud on the web, Adobe Stock, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Developer Console, and Adobe Acrobat AI Assistant. The option appears based on configurations you establish in the Admin Console.
The option to choose specific directories or domains for rule eligibility is only available when you select an enterprise product. If you selected a Teams product, the eligibility option defaults to all users in your organization.
Only enterprise products require selecting a product profile when creating a rule. Teams products assign licenses directly to users without product profiles.
Users receive an email notification confirming that their request has been approved, and a second email when the license becomes available for use with their Adobe account.
For teams, products, or VIP enterprise products, administrators receive an email alert, and the requesting user is notified that no licenses are available. For enterprise contracts with overdelegation, users receive automatic approval regardless of remaining licenses.
No. Pausing or removing a rule does not affect users who were previously provisioned a license through automated approval. Pausing deactivates the rule until you resume it, while removing permanently deletes the rule and its settings.
An email requesting more licenses indicates the system has run out of licenses to auto‑assign. Add more licenses so users regain access either automatically or by re‑requesting, depending on the product’s contract type.
