Learn how to rename a layer in the Essential Graphics panel to organize effectively and make it easier to locate layers.

Before you begin

Create a project, add media, and create some text and shape layers.

  1. Select a layer and right-click on it.
  2. From the context menu, select Rename.
  3. Edit the name in the text field.
  4. Press Enter or select away from the text field
Note:

Premiere Pro supports renaming shape and clip layers. However, inline name editing does not work for text layers because the name of the text layer is the text shown in the Program Monitor.

Result

The name of the selected layer is changed.
