Learn how to change a clip’s timecode that was recorded by Premiere Pro and set it manually.

You can change the timecode after it’s been recorded by Premiere Pro. For example, if you captured footage from a DV copy of a Hi8 tape originally recorded with a Rewritable Consumer Time Code (RCTC), the DV copy and the video files copied on your system copied carry the DV timecode, not the original RCTC. For convenience in referencing shot logs made for the original Hi8 tape, you might want to reset the timecode to the original RCTC numbers.

  1. Select the clip in the Project panel.
  2. Select Clip > Modify > Timecode and adjust the options as needed.

  1. Select OK.

Result

Once you manually set the clip's timecode, the start and end points change to match the specified timecode values. If your workflow relies on modifying the source clips using Modify Timecode, don’t use proxies in Premiere Pro because it will result in unexpected behavior.
