Learn how to reconnect full-resolution media while working with proxies.

If you are editing with proxy files, you need to reconnect full-resolution media when you're ready to finalize your project for export or any other post-production tasks that require the highest quality.

If you plan to do a lot of color correction, add complex effects, compositing, or audio mixing, it's better to reconnect full-resolution files to ensure you are working with the best source material for these tasks.

Note:

In the Project panel, you can only attach and reconnect full-resolution media for video-only, audio/video, and offline proxy clips. Other file types (for example, audio-only, stills, or image sequences) are not supported.

Before you begin

Complete all your timeline editing tasks. When you are ready to export, you can reconnect full-resolution media.

  1. Select the high-resolution media clips you want to associate with proxy files in the Project panel. You can select multiple clips by pressing Ctrl (Windows) or Command (macOS) while selecting them.
  2. Select Proxy > Reconnect Full Resolution Media. The Reconnect Full Resolution Media dialog box opens, which is identical to the Attach Proxies dialog, except that it attaches full-resolution clips.

Use the Reconnect Full Resolution Media dialog box to select file properties to match.

  1. Select the file properties you want to match. Premiere Pro uses a combination of criteria to match files, which include file names, file extensions, tape names, and timecode. It will link them together if it finds a match between a high-resolution clip and a proxy file based on these criteria.
  2. Select Relink others automatically if you want Premiere Pro to search for and attach proxies to any other media clips in your project that match the properties of the ones you're currently working with.
  3. Select Use Media Browser to attach files if you want to use the Media Browser in Premiere Pro to navigate to the corresponding full-resolution clip.
  4. Select Attach.
  5. In the Media Browser, search for and select the correct clip.
  6. Select OK.

Result

You can now work with the full-resolution files – doing further edits and readying them for export.
