Error 501 causes installation failure

Learn how to resolve error code 501 "Package couldn't be installed because resources it modifies are currently in use" during Adobe app installation.

Error Code 501 occurs when the Creative Cloud installer is unable to proceed because a required file is in use by another app or when the installer version is outdated on certain systems.

Solution

To fix this error, save your work and close the app that is reported in the error log. If you are unable to close the app, use the following steps to close it using Task Manager:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager

  2. Navigate to the Processes tab.

  3. Locate and right-click the reported app on the list.

  4. Select End task to close this process.

  5. Select Retry on the error dialog box to download the Creative Cloud app again.
