Error 505 causes permission failure

Last updated on Jul 30, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 505 "Failed to lower privileges" during Adobe app installation.

Error 505 occurs when the app does not have the necessary permissions to complete the installation or deployment process. This can be due to system restrictions, third-party software, or disabled services.

Solution

To resolve this error, try these solutions in order:

Third-party software blocks installation permissions

Some security or privilege management tools can block the installer. You need to uninstall any privilege management software before proceeding with the installation.

  1. Uninstall Beyondtrust Powerbroker.

  2. Restart your device and install the app again.

System lacks critical Windows updates

Outdated system components can prevent the installer from functioning correctly.

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

  2. Select Check for updates and install any available updates.

  3. Restart your device, if prompted.

Remote deployment lacks proper execution context

If you're deploying the app remotely using the Admin Console Package, ensure the package is executed under the Local System context to grant the necessary permissions.

Secondary Logon service is disabled

This Windows service is required for specific installation tasks. Follow these steps to turn on the Secondary Logon service:

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

  2. Locate Secondary Logon in the list.

  3. If it’s turned off, right-click and select Start.

  4. Once the installation is complete, you can turn-off the service again, if needed.
