Error 509 causes installation failure

Last updated on Jul 30, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 509 "Unable to install the product as the install package is not supported on this file system" during Adobe app installation.

Error 509 occurs when the drive's file system format doesn't support the app package type. Adobe apps require the NTFS (New Technology File System) format for proper installation.

Solution

Ensure that your installation drive uses NTFS. If it doesn't, change the install location to an NTFS-formatted drive.

The installation drive isn't using NTFS file system

  1. Open File Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the drive you want to check (e.g., C: or D:).

  3. Right-click the drive and select Properties.

  4. Look for File system in the General tab. If it displays NTFS, your drive is compatible.

If the file system isn't NTFS, choose a different drive with NTFS formatting.

The default install location is set to an incompatible drive

  1. Select the Start menu icon, then go to Settings > System > Storage.

  2. Scroll down and select Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved.

  3. Under New apps will save to, select a drive that uses the NTFS file system.

After making these changes, install the app again.
