Device activation limit reached

Last updated on Jan 8, 2026

Learn how to resolve the "Device activation limit" error message on Creative Cloud app versions 2019 and later.

Your Creative Cloud individual plan allows you to stay signed in on up to two devices at a time. If you try to sign in on a third device, you’ll see a device activation limit message.

Maximum allowed (two) devices are already active

Your Adobe ID is already signed in on the maximum number of allowed devices (two). When you try to sign in on another device, Creative Cloud blocks access until one of the active devices is deactivated. Depending on your situation, you can resolve this in different ways.

Sign out of another device from the activation limit window

If you want to stay signed in on your current device and deactivate one of your other devices, you can use the activation limit window to sign out remotely.

In the activation limit window, select Sign out for the device you want to deactivate.

App window displays an activation limit reached error message and gives instructions to sign out of another device to continue.
The activation limit message displays all active devices.

When you're signed out of the other device, select Continue.

The Creative Cloud app window displays an activation message specifying the number of devices a user has been signed in to.
You can choose to sign out of multiple devices via the activation limit window.

You can now access your apps from the device where you chose to remain signed in.

Sign out of the current device and use a different Adobe ID

If you want to use a different Adobe ID on your current device, you can sign out of this device and then sign in with another account.

To sign out of your current device, select Sign out in your app.

In the confirmation window, select Sign out.

The user has been signed out of all devices.
Selecting Sign out will sign you out from all Adobe applications on the system.

To sign in with a different Adobe ID, open any app and select Help > Sign In.

Sign in with another Adobe ID.

You can now access your apps on the device where you signed in with a different Adobe ID.

Deactivate directly from Adobe account

If you’re signed in on a device you no longer have access to, you can remotely deactivate that device from your Adobe account.

Select Plans and payment > Activated devices.

Under active devices, find the device you want to deactivate.

Activated devices in Adobe Account, showing a list of devices linked to the subscription.
View your currently linked devices in your Adobe Account dashboard.

Select Deactivate next to that device.

Follow the onscreen prompt to confirm.
