Replace pages in PDFs

Last updated on Aug 16, 2025

Learn how to replace pages in PDFs using Acrobat on desktop.

You can replace one or more pages in a PDF with pages from another PDF. This is useful for updating documents or combining content from multiple sources. Only the text and images on the original pages are replaced, any interactive elements like links or bookmarks are preserved.

Replace pages in a single PDF

Open the PDF that contains the pages you want to replace and select All tools > Organize pages.

Select Replace in the left pane.

In the file explorer window, select the PDF containing the replacement pages and select Open.

In the Replace Pages dialog box:

  • Under Original, enter the page numbers to be replaced in your current document.
  • Under Replacement, enter the first page number of the replacement range. Acrobat will calculate the last page based on the number of pages being replaced.
The Replace Pages dialog box displays Original and Replacement options for specifying page range for replacing pages.
Specify the original page range and replacement page range to replace PDF pages.

Select Ok and save your updated PDF.

Replace pages between multiple PDFs

Open both the PDF you want to update and the PDF containing the replacement pages.

Select All tools > Organize pages for both PDFs to display the page thumbnails.

In the PDF with the replacement pages, select the page(s) you want to use:

  • On Windows, press Ctrl and select the pages.
  • On macOS, press Command and select the pages.

Drag the selected thumbnails to the document area of your target PDF.

Release the mouse when the pointer is directly over the page number where you want to insert the new pages.

Note

The selected pages will replace an equal number of pages in the target PDF, starting at the page number where you dropped them.

Save your updated PDF.
