Block or allow file attachments

Learn how to manage file attachment security by controlling which types of files can be opened or saved in Adobe Acrobat.

Acrobat blocks and allows certain file attachments, such as those with.BIN, .EXE, and.BAT extensions, to safeguard your system while maintaining necessary features. By customizing these lists, you can adjust your security settings and allow trusted file types to open as attachments in PDFs.

Select Edit from the global bar, then select More Attach file.

Select a file to add as an attachment then select Open.

Right-click the file in the Attachments pane, and then select Open Attachment.

In the dialog box that opens, select one of the following options:

  • Open this file: Opens the file without changing the registry list.
  • Always allow opening files of this type: Adds the file type to the whitelist.
  • Never allow opening files of this type: Adds the file type to the blacklist.

Select OK.
