Last updated on Aug 16, 2025

Learn how to convert your documents and scans into fillable forms using Adobe Acrobat.

Acrobat automatically identifies static form fields and transforms them into fillable text fields when you convert scanned paper forms or digital files. You can move text fields, insert buttons, add or delete form fields, and use drag-and-drop functionality. Additionally, you can enable fields for electronic signatures.

Select All tools > Prepare a form.

Select any one of the following options as needed:

  • Select a file: Converts an existing document to a PDF form.
  • Scan a document: Scans a paper form and converts it to a PDF form.

If you want others to sign the form, select This document requires signatures

Select Create form. The form opens in editing mode.

Review the created form fields. Delete, resize, or rearrange fields as needed.

The Fields pane displays the existing form fields, which can be edited or deleted.
To view the existing form fields, select the visible fields from the Fields pane.

To highlight the existing fields in the form, select the Options menu in the Fields pane and select Highlight existing fields.

To add more text fields or form components, select the desired options from ADD FORM COMPONENTS under Prepare a form pane.
