Manage digital ID passwords

Learn how to change passwords and configure password timeout settings for your digital IDs in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Keep your digital ID secure to protect your electronic signatures and encrypted documents. Regularly updating your password helps prevent unauthorized access. Use password timeout settings to control how often you're prompted to enter your password.


Windows

Select Menu (Windows) or Acrobat (macOS), and then select Preferences.

Select Signatures from the Categories menu, and then select More under Identities & Trusted Certificates.

Select Digital ID Files and select a digital ID for which you want to change the password.

Select Change Password. Type the old password and a new password. Confirm the new password and select OK.

With the ID selected, select Password Timeout.

Password Timeout allows you to set options for when you will be required to enter your password.

Select one of the following options representing the frequency you’d like to be prompted to enter your password:

  • Always
  • After
  • Once per session
  • Never

Type the password and select OK.

macOS

Select Acrobat > Preferences.

Select Signatures from the Categories menu, and then select More under Identities & Trusted Certificates.
