About reviewing on internal servers

Learn how to distribute PDFs for review using your organization's internal servers in Acrobat on desktop.

If your team works behind a firewall and shares access to a common internal server, you can use this server to send PDFs for review. This ensures that all recipients can access the review file securely.

Supported internal server locations include:

  • Network folders: If all recipients are within a local area network, network folders and SharePoint servers are the best choices for a comment server. Network folders are generally the cheapest and most reliable.
  • Microsoft SharePoint workspace (Windows only): If your recipients work behind a firewall and all have access to a common server, you can use your own internal server location, such as a Microsoft SharePoint site.
For more information, see Hosting shared reviews on SharePoint.
  • Web server folders (Not available for form distribution): WebDAV servers (web servers that use the WebDAV protocol) are best used only if your reviewers are outside a firewall or a local area network.
For more information on how to configure Acrobat to use a WebDAV service, see Hosting a Shared Review: An Alternative to Acrobat.com.

Acrobat uploads published comments to the internal server, allowing reviewers to collaborate seamlessly.

Internal server set up for PDF review

To send PDFs for review via an internal server, you can choose a shared location that all recipients can access, such as a network folder, a SharePoint workspace (Windows only), or a web server folder. This allows reviewers to collaborate efficiently, either by accessing a shared link or receiving the PDF as an email attachment.

When setting up the server, Acrobat prompts you to save a profile with the selected server location and distribution preferences. This saved profile simplifies future distributions, making it easier to send review files without reconfiguring settings each time.
