Convert PDFs to PostScript files
Learn how to export a PDF to a PostScript format file for printing and prepress applications using Adobe Acrobat.
PostScript (PS) and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) file formats are used in printing and graphics. PS is ideal for high-quality, multi-page document printing, especially on PostScript printers. EPS, a subset of PostScript, is typically used for single-page files. It is designed for embedding images, illustrations, or logos into other documents, especially in design and publishing.
Covert PDF to PS or EPS format
Select Other format from the left pane and then select EPS or PS from the dropdown menu.
Select Convert to EPS or Convert to PS.
In the dialog box that opens, select a location to save the file.
Type a name for the file and then select Save.
Adjust PDF to PS and EPS conversion settings
Select Convert from the global bar.
Select Other format from the left pane and then select PS or EPS from the drop-down menu.
Select Settings to modify the export preferences.
Adjust the following settings as needed:
- Printer Description File: Choose a PPD or use Device Independent for composite PostScript.
- ASCII or Binary: Specify the output format. Binary creates smaller files but isn't compatible with all workflows.
- PostScript: Select the PostScript language level.
- Font Inclusion: Choose which fonts to include in the PostScript file.
- Include Comments: Preserves comments in the resulting file.
- Convert TrueType to Type 1: Converts TrueType fonts to Type 1 in the output.
- Include Preview: Creates a TIFF preview (not available for PS output).
- Page Range: Specify which pages to export.
Select OK.
