Restrict access to JavaScript APIs

Learn how to adjust JavaScript security settings in Adobe Acrobat to restrict access to specific APIs.

Acrobat lets you customize how JavaScript runs within the application, giving you control over your security level. By adjusting these settings, you can limit access to JavaScript APIs, which helps protect your system from potential security risks. 

Windows

Select Menu > Preferences.

Select JavaScript under Categories.

In the JavaScript Security panel, configure the following options:

  • Enable Acrobat JavaScript: Check or uncheck the box to disable JavaScript completely.
  • Enable menu items JavaScript execution privileges: Check or uncheck the box to prevent JavaScript execution through menu items.
  • Enable global object security policy: Check or uncheck the box to allow JavaScript globally through APIs or trust specific documents containing JavaScripts.

Select OK.

macOS

Select Acrobat > Preferences.

Select JavaScript under Categories.

In the JavaScript Security panel, configure the following options:

  • Enable Acrobat JavaScript: Check or uncheck the box to disable JavaScript completely.
  • Enable menu items JavaScript execution privileges: Check or uncheck the box to prevent JavaScript execution through menu items.
