Learn how to view and filter comments during PDF reviews using Adobe Acrobat.

When you open a document from the home view, the Comments list appears in the right pane of the document window. It displays all comments in a PDF and provides a toolbar with options for sorting, filtering, and other options for working with comments.

Select Comments from the right panel.

From the Options menu  of the Comments panel, select any of the following:

  • To expand or collapse the comments, select Expand All or Collapse All in the Comments list options menu.
  • To print a summary of the comments, select Print with Comment Summary.
  • To create a summary of the comments, select Create Comment Summary
  • To export data to a particular file type, select Export All To Data File
  • To export specific data, select Export Selected To Data File
  • To export the summary to a Word document, select Export to Word.
  • Specify Commenting Preferences.
  • To sort comments by page, author, date, type, unread status, or color, select Sort comments.

To filter the comments, select Filter comments  from the Comments pane, choose any of the following:

  • To clear all filters, select Clear all. You can also use Ctrl + 8 (Windows) or Command + 8 (Mac OS).
  • Use the toggle switch to show or hide all comments. You can also use Ctrl + Shift + 8 (Windows) or Command + Shift + 8 (Mac OS).
  • To filter comments based on type such as sticky note or highlight, select Sticky Note or Highlight under Type drop-down menu.
  • To filter comments based on the status such as read or unread, select Read or Unread under Status drop-down menu.
  • To open all pop-up notes, right-click an annotation and select Open all Pop-Ups.  
  • To close all pop-up notes, right-click an annotation and select Minimize Pop-Ups
Tip

To resize the Comments pane, align your cursor along the left boundary of the pane and then hold and drag towards the left or right.
