Enable filling and saving rights in PDF forms for Acrobat Reader users

Learn how to save your PDF form as a Reader Extended PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro, allowing Acrobat Reader users to fill in and save forms.

In Acrobat Pro, you can save a PDF form as a Reader Extended PDF, which allows Acrobat Reader users to fill in, save, comment on, and use measuring tools in the PDF form.

Select Menu > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF (Windows) or File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF (macOS).

Select any one of the following options as needed:

  • Enable Commenting & Measuring: Allows users to add comments and use measurement tools.
  • Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save): Allows Reader users to save data they've entered in interactive or fillable forms.
The following options are highlighted under Reader extended PDF menu: Enable Commenting & Measuring and Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save).
Add comments, access measuring tools and save data in interactive and fillable forms.

Select OK.

In the Save as PDF dialog box, type a name, choose the location, and then select Save.
