Remove passwords from PDFs

Learn how to remove password protection from your PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat to allow access for all users.

Select All tools > Protect a PDF.

In the left pane, select Set security properties under ADVANCED PROPERTIES.

In the window that opens, select the Security tab and then select Change Settings.

Remove the security options as needed:

  • To remove the document open password, deselect Require a password to open the document.
  • To remove the permissions password, deselect Restrict editing and printing of the document.

Type the permission password if prompted.

Select OK to close the dialog box.

Select OK to confirm the changes.

Save the PDF to apply the new password settings.
