Set Adobe PDF printer properties on Windows

Last updated on Aug 16, 2025

Learn how to configure Adobe PDF printer properties to customize your PDF output in Adobe Acrobat.

On Windows, the default printer properties typically don’t need to be changed, unless you’ve enabled printer sharing or configured security settings.

Printer properties and Printing preferences are different. Printer properties apply to all printers and include general settings, whereas Printing preferences are specific to the Adobe PDF printer and control how documents are converted to PDF.

Set Adobe PDF printer properties

Open the Windows Start menu and select Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Select the Adobe PDF printer and select Printer properties.

Windows 11 Settings window shows Adobe PDF printer settings such as Open print queue, Printer properties, Printing preferences, and more.
To set PDF Printer properties, select Printer Properties under Adobe PDF printer settings.

In the Adobe PDF Properties dialog box, select the tabs and configure options as needed.

Select Apply and then select OK to save your changes.

Reassign the port that the Adobe PDF printer uses

Quit Adobe Acrobat Distiller if it is running and allow all jobs queued to the Adobe PDF printer to be completed.

Open the Windows Start menu and select Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Select the Adobe PDF printer and select Printer properties.

Select the Ports tab and then select Add Port.

The Adobe PDF Properties dialog box shows the Ports tab open with Add Port, Delete Port, and Configure Ports options.
To reassign a port that Adobe PDF printer uses, select Add Port in the Ports tab.

Select Adobe PDF Port Monitor from the list of available port types and select New Port.

Select a local folder for PDF output files and select OK. Then, select Close to quit the Printer Ports dialog box.

In the Adobe PDF Properties dialog box, select Apply, and then select OK.

Tip

For best results, select a folder on the same system where the distiller is installed. Although remote or network folders are supported, they have limited user access and security issues.

Delete a folder and reassign the Adobe PDF printer to the default port

Quit Adobe Acrobat Distiller if it is running and allow all jobs queued to the Adobe PDF printer to be completed.

Open the Windows Start menu and select Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Select the Adobe PDF printer and select Printer properties.

In the dialog box that opens, select the Ports tab.

Select the default port named Documents and select Apply.

Select the port to delete, select Delete Port, and then select OK to confirm the deletion.

The Adobe PDF Properties dialog box shows the Ports tab open with Add Port, Delete Port, and Configure Ports options.
To delete a port, select the default port, select Delete Port, and then select OK.

Select the Documents port again and select Close.
