Search for Bates-numbered PDFs in Acrobat Pro

Learn how to quickly locate specific Bates-numbered documents or search across a series of Bates-numbered PDFs.

Select Menu > Search > Advanced search on Windows, or File > Advanced Search on macOS.

In the Search window, enter the Bates number or a portion of it in the What word or phrase would you like to search for? field.

To find a specific document, enter the complete Bates number. To search across a series, enter a distinctive portion like the prefix or suffix.

Under Where would you like to search, select All PDF Documents in.

The Search window displays two search options: In the current document for searching within the open file and All PDF Documents in, allowing users to browse and select a specific location for a broader search.
In the All PDF Documents in menu, search the documents to locate the Bates-numbered PDFs.

Select the dropdown menu and select Browse for Location, then specify the location.

Enter the word or phrase to search, then select optional filters like Whole words only, Case-sensitive, Bookmarks, or Comments.

Select Search.

To search Bates-numbered PDFs in a portfolio, open it and enter the Bates number in the portfolio toolbar’s Search box.
