Web page conversion settings

Customize how web pages are converted to PDFs, including layout, encoding, colors, and multimedia options.

To change web page conversion settings from Acrobat, go to All tools > Create a PDF > Web page, then select Advanced settings to customize conversion and layout options.

Alternatively, you can open the Adobe Acrobat extension in your browser and select Conversion settings for quick access to key options.

General settings

  • Conversion Settings: Choose how HTML or text files are converted, including font and layout settings.
  • Create bookmarks: Add bookmarks in the PDF using web page titles or URLs.
  • Create PDF tags: Preserve the HTML structure in the PDF for easier navigation and accessibility.
  • Place headers and footers on new page: Show the page title or URL in the header and the URL and download date/time in the footer.

HTML conversion settings

  • Default Encoding: Set the input encoding of the file text from a menu of operating systems and alphabets.
  • Encoding rules:
    • Always: Uses the selected encoding always.
    • When Page Doesn’t specify Encoding: Use encoding only when not specified in the HTML file.
  • Language Specific Font Settings: Customize script, font style, and font size.
  • Default Colors: Choose default text, background, and link colors. Optionally apply to all pages.
    • Force These Settings for All Pages. When this option is unselected, the default colors are applied only to pages without a specified color scheme.
  • Embed multimedia content when possible: Choose to disable, embed, or link to multimedia content like SWF files.
  • Reference multimedia content by URL: Enable this option to link to multimedia content instead of embedding it.
  • Retain page background: Keep background colors and tiled images from the original page.
  • Convert Images: Include images in the PDF.
  • Underline Links: Add underlines to text links.
  • Expand Scrollable Blocks: Ensure scrollable areas are fully expanded in the PDF.

Text settings

  • Input Encoding: Set how plain text files are interpreted.
  • Language Specific Font Settings: Adjust script, font, and size for body text.
  • Default Colors: Set colors for text, background, and links.
  • Wrap Lines At Margin: Automatically wrap text when it reaches the page margin.

Page layout settings

  • Page size and orientation: Choose page size, margins, and whether the layout is Portrait or Landscape.
  • Scale Wide Contents to fit page: Resize wide content to fit the page width.
  • Switch to landscape if scaled smaller than (%): Automatically switch to Landscape if the scaled content is smaller than a set percentage of the original.
