Learn how to customize the appearance and behavior of form fields in Adobe Acrobat.

Select All tools > Prepare a form.

Right-click a form field and select Properties.

In the Text Field Properties dialog box, modify the following settings in the General tab:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for the field.
  • Tooltip: Add text that appears when users hover over the field.
  • Field type: Change the type of form field such as text field, checkbox or dropdown.
  • Participant role: Specify who can interact with this field.
  • Signer's email: Enter the email of the person who should sign this field.

If you have multiple form fields selected, you can modify additional options under Common Properties in the General tab:

  • Form Field: Choose whether the field is visible, hidden, visible but doesn't print, or hidden but printable.
  • Orientation: Rotate the selected fields
  • Read Only: Prevent users from changing the selected fields
  • Required: Make the selected fields mandatory

To set the modified properties as default for a field type, right-click the form field and select Use Current Properties as New Defaults.

Note

New default properties only apply to future form fields you create. Existing fields keep their current settings.

Select Close.
