Convert PDFs to Microsoft Excel formats

Learn how to convert PDF files to Microsoft Excel (XLSX) and XML formats using Adobe Acrobat.

Convert PDF to Microsoft Excel (XLSX)

Select Convert from the global bar.

Select Microsoft Excel from the left pane and then select XLSX from the dropdown menu.

The left pane of the Convert menu highlights Microsoft Excel XLSX. Other options include Adobe Express, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Choose between XLSX and XML formats when converting your PDF to Excel format.

Select Convert to XLSX.

In the dialog box that opens, select a location to save the file.

Type a name for the file and then select Save.

Convert PDF to XML

Select Convert from the global bar.

Select Microsoft Excel from the left pane and then select XML from the dropdown menu.

Select Convert to XML.

In the dialog box that opens, select a location to save the file.

Type a name for the file and then select Save.

Adjust conversion settings

Select Convert from the global bar.

Select Microsoft Excel from the left pane and then select XML or XLSX from the dropdown menu.

Select Settings to modify the export preferences.

Adjust the following settings as needed:

  • Excel Workbook Settings: Specify whether to create a worksheet for each table, page or the entire document.
  • Numeric Settings: Set decimal and thousands separators for numeric data.
  • Text Recognition Settings: Recognize text images if needed and set the language.
  • Restore Defaults: Apply default conversion settings.

Select OK.
