Improve dialogue clarity

Last updated on Jun 23, 2025

Learn how to improve dialogue clarity using the Essential Sound panel by reducing noise, enhancing speech, and balancing levels for a crisp, professional sound.

The clarity of a dialogue track depends on several factors, including the variations in volume and frequency of the human voice—which range between 50Hz and 2KHz—and the contents of the other tracks accompanying it.

Compressing or expanding the dynamic range of the recording, adjusting the frequency response of the recording, and enhancing voices are common methods for improving dialogue audio clarity.

To improve the dialogue clarity of a clip, do the following:

  1. Select the Clarity section of the Essential Sound panel.

  2. Select the checkbox for the property you want to change, and then use the slider to adjust the level between 0 and 10:

    • Dynamics: Changes the impact of the recording by compressing or expanding its dynamic range. Change the level from Natural (a less processed sound edit) to Focused (which applies more aggressive compression and leveling).
    • EQ: Reduces or boosts selected frequencies in your recording. Select a Preset from the dropdown list and adjust the Amount using the slider.
    • Vocal Enhancer: Improves the clarity of spoken words within an audio clip. Select High Tone or Low Tone to process and enhance the dialogue at the appropriate frequency.
